In most of the game's text data, each byte represents one letter, numeral,
other symbol, or a control code used to indicate a specific character's name,
a number, an item name, the end of the text string, or other things like that.
In the main game dialogue, special bytecodes that represent sequences of two
characters are also used, to save space.
